Diverse Power Incorporated offers member-consumers the opportunity to supply their electric needs by supporting cleaner, renewable energy from Georgia natural resources by utilizing biomass as a "green" resource.In 2005, Diverse Power joined 27 other Georgia electric cooperatives by signing on with Green Power EMC, the first renewable energy program in Georgia, serving electricity through its 28 member EMCs to more than three million Georgians.
Since forming in 2001, Green Power EMC has brought on-line two landfill generating sites and a low-impact hydroelectric facility, bringing the total renewable generating capacity to 7.3 megawatts, enough to supply all energy needs of 4,000 consumers. In the near future, other "green resources" such as solar, wind and water will be used to generate electricity.
Diverse Power members can determine how some or all of their electricity is generated by choosing "green energy," which is available in subscription blocks of 75 kilowatt-hours per month. A portion of all Diverse Power green energy sales goes to support continued growth of energy generated from these cleaner resources.
