Reporting Relationships:
Reports to: Buildings & Grounds Superintendent

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.

At least two years of experience in building maintenance or in a similar position.  Experience should include all aspects of building cleaning and maintenance; inside and outside of buildings.

Abilities and Skills:
Must have a good working knowledge of building construction and repair techniques. Must have a working knowledge of office cleaning and equipment.  Must be able to understand and follow instructions for various machines and supplies used in maintaining office building and DPI grounds.

It is not required, but preferred, this person have a sound working knowledge of: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall installation & repair, and painting. Must be able to perform the activities necessary to complete work assignments described in the position description in a timely manner.  Must be able to operate standard cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaners, buffers, etc.  Must be able to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.  Must have a valid driver’s license.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This description is intended to indicate the kinds of tasks and levels of work difficulty required of the position given this title and shall not be construed as declaring what the specific duties and responsibilities of any position shall be. The listing of essential duties and responsibilities shall not be held to exclude other duties that may be assigned based on the needs of the Cooperative.

Ensures a positive image for the Cooperative by providing clean and well-maintained office and physical facilities. Performs construction and maintenance tasks.

Performs personally the following:

• Carries out scheduled maintenance on building. Ensures building is kept clean and repairs are made.

• Makes minor repairs and notifies supervisor of additional repairs to be made.

• Sets up meeting rooms for all meetings for DPI members, employees and officials as needed.

• Maintains adequate supplies for Building and Grounds. 

• Makes Bank deposits as needed.

• Serves as DPI courier.

• Maintains parking areas and grounds.

• Ensures that assigned equipment is kept in good repair.

• Follows all safety policies, rules and procedures.

• Works on days and hours other than normal work schedule as assigned by Supervision such as floor waxing, storms, etc…

• Schedules all vacation and leaves of absence with Supervisor so as to create the least impact on DPI. Supervisor shall be given a minimum of 2 week notice of any planned absence.

• Stays alert to any unsafe or problematic condition that may arise on the campus of DPI and notifies the Building and Grounds Supervisor as soon as possible.

• Seeks opportunities to learn and increase skill and methods to better perform required tasks so as to maintain a professional and safe environment at DPI.

• All clothing and footwear shall be appropriate for required tasks during normal working hours. DPI approved clothing and footwear is required for safety and to promote a positive and professional appearance to DPI customers and coworkers.

• Performs and completes any and all other duties as assigned by Supervisor in a timely manner.

Working Conditions:
Office position.  Working indoors and outdoors as needed. Some overtime may be required.

After an offer of employment has been made, a physical examination is required which will include drug testing.

  • Building & Grounds Superintendent
  • Various and other personnel of the cooperative

External:

  • Member-Consumers:  Advises and assists member-consumers in every way possible.  Takes advantage of the opportunity to obtain increased understanding and acceptance of cooperative objectives, policies, plans and programs.
  • General Public: Maintains friendly, cooperative relationships with the general public in the performance of responsibilities.

After an offer of employment has been made, a physical examination is required, which will include a test for illegal drugs.
