Education and/or Experience: 
Completion of a recognized Mechanic training program, apprenticeship, or equivalent.  This training should include exposure to hydraulic systems.  Must be able to learn and apply information from technical manuals. 

At least five years of experience as a mechanic providing the full range of activities on transportation and other equipment. Experience should include exposure to engine and transmission overhauls, rebuilds, hydraulic systems, and other related technical applications.

Abilities and Skills
Must be able to perform the activities necessary to complete work assignments described in the position description.  Must be able to complete a variety of reports and maintain accurate records.  Must be able to organize work to minimize downtime. Must be able to keep records required for accounting of time and materials, must have a valid driver’s license; a commercial driver’s license is a plus. Must be proficient in first-aid methods and artificial respiration. Must be able to operate diagnostic equipment.

Work may be performed in awkward positions, including stooping, bending, crawling, and other similar movements.  Frequently lifts materials and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds.  Occasionally lifts items that weigh up to 100 pounds.  The position requires the ability to move materials from a loading dock to shelves that are up to six feet high.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Carries out all the necessary activities in the repair and maintenance of cooperative vehicles and equipment, including, but not limited to, performing mechanical repairs, repairing hydraulic equipment, and performing preventative and scheduled maintenance.

2. Rebuilds, remounts, repairs, fabricates, and/or welds structural parts or equipment.

3. Performs safety inspections for the purpose of licensing Cooperative transportation equipment in compliance with Federal DOT, State, and local regulations.

4. Inventories gas and fuels.

5. Keeps records of maintenance on all company rolling stock, line crew hydraulic tools, and shop equipment.  Keeps records of all vehicle serial numbers and license numbers.  Maintains licenses and permits.

6. Follows all safety policies, rules, and procedures.

7. Inspects work after completion,

    8. Keeps assigned work area, vehicles, tools, and equipment neat and orderly.

    Working Conditions
    Outside work in all kinds of weather may be required.  Irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.  Overtime is required. 

    After an offer of employment has been made, a physical examination is required, which will include a drug test.
