Summary of Position:
Safeguards, installs, and maintains continuous operations of Diverse Power’s outside communications plant.  The position is also responsible with coordinating outages, repairs, and installations with third parties. Additional duties may include cross training with other DPI employees in multiple disciplines.

1 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

(a)    Aerial and underground installation and repair of communications drops and demarcation apparatuses.

(b)    Installation, diagnostics, and repair of routers, switches, multiplexors, camera, alarm, and fire-suppression systems and other customer premise equipment.

(c)    Deployment, installation, and repair of wireless network customer premise equipment.

(d)   Diagnostics and repairs of damaged fiber, copper, and wireless facilities.

(e)    Accurately operates and diagnoses network issues using test equipment.

(f)      Proficiently operates Arc Fusion splicing machines including cleavers and associated hand tools.

(g)    Routinely splices fiber optic drops using appropriate tools.

(h)    Routinely climbs poles and ladders to install, align, and repair wireless and wired facilities.

(i)        Often crawls under homes, businesses, and within other confined spaces to install and repair wired and wireless equipment.

(j)        Works with and assist other departments and third parties.

(k)      Occasionally installs cables and wires through underground conduits and vaults.

(l)      Assists the department in planning activities that affect fieldwork or operations of other departments and entities.

(m)      Participates in the development of procedures for new program implementation.

(n)      Assesses and ensures the accuracy of the communications plant maps.

(o)        Investigates complaints and resolves problems or refers to appropriate DPI personnel.

(p)      Conducts field surveys and assist in the design of wired and wireless services.

(q)      Identifies, reports, and makes needed repairs on the system.

(r)        Informs supervisor of consumer requests.

(s)        Complies with all traffic laws, safety rules and regulations while operating assigned vehicle.  Should at all times look out for the safety of the vehicle, its occupants and its load.

(t)      Sees that assigned truck, tools, and working equipment are properly used and kept in good working order.

(u)      Occasionally contacts and works alongside other communications entities to ensure correct fiber connectivity and operation.

2 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent is required.
  • At least two years experience in communications outside plant installation, repair, construction, or splicing is preferred.

3 PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Fieldwork: Working in pole communications space around other utilities.  Crawling under houses and navigating other confined spaces. Working in commercial and residential dwellings and buildings. Working near congested roadways with vehicular and pedestrian traffic and in extremely rural and isolated areas. Working in underground vaults and open pits. Continual work during extreme weather conditions. Some irregular hours and/or overtime will be required.
  • After an offer of employment has been made, a physical examination is required including drug testing.
